Designing the Book Cover for Super Nurse by Prof. Nokuthula Sibiya

Image
This was one of those projects that reminded me why I love what I do  I recently had the chance to design the book cover for Super Nurse , written by Prof. Nokuthula Sibiya — and it was such a fun and inspiring experience My Design Process I started off in Photoshop 2022 (yep, still rocking the 2022 version 😅). That’s where I built the main layout and got the overall look and feel right — playing with color, light, and the visual emotion I wanted the cover to have. Once that base design came together, I moved over to Illustrator to handle the finer details — the typography, spine, and back layout. Illustrator always gives me that crisp vector control I need to make everything print-ready and clean. The Vision The goal was simple: create a cover that celebrates the power, heart, and resilience of nurses. I wanted it to feel professional, warm, and heroic — just like the title. Final Thoughts Even though I’m still using Photoshop 2022, it just proves that you don’t ne...

Photoshop 2026 Is Out — But I’m Still Rocking the 2022 Version

Image
Adobe Photoshop 2026 - Plash image So, Adobe just dropped Photoshop 2026 , and the design world is buzzing! Everyone’s talking about the crazy new AI tools and faster performance. Meanwhile… I’m still here on Photoshop 2022 , doing my thing I haven’t tried the new one yet, but I’ve been checking out what it can do — and wow, it looks like Adobe really turned things up this time.  What’s Got My Attention The new AI design tools that can turn a text idea into an image — like, type it, and it appears! Smarter brushes that feel more natural for illustrators and digital painters (that’s definitely my lane). And apparently, it’s way faster and lighter than before — no more lagging when you’ve got a million layers open  My Honest Take Even though I’m still using 2022, I’m impressed by what 2026 is offering. But honestly, it’s not always about having the latest version — it’s about what you create with what you have. Smilogfx , I’m still pushing pixels, designin...

Designing a Logo for Climate Focus News: A Case Study

Image
As a graphic designer, I'm always excited to take on new projects that challenge me creatively and allow me to make a positive impact. Recently, I had the opportunity to design a logo for Climate Focus News, an organization dedicated to providing news and insights on climate-related issues. The Brief The client approached me with a clear idea of what they wanted: a logo that would represent their organization's focus on climate and sustainability. They wanted a design that was modern, bold, and eye-catching, with a clear connection to the theme of climate. The Concept After researching and brainstorming ideas, I decided to focus on a design that incorporated the letter "C" for Climate. I wanted to create a logo that was simple, yet distinctive and memorable. I started by experimenting with different typography and letterforms, eventually settling on a custom-designed letter "C" made up of curved lines that evoke a sense of movement and fluidity. Designing a WhatsApp Poster: A Personal Project to Attract New Clients

Image
As a graphic designer, I'm always looking for innovative ways to showcase my services and attract new clients. Recently, I decided to design a poster specifically for my WhatsApp contacts, highlighting my graphic design services and encouraging them to reach out for their design needs. The Concept The idea behind the poster was simple: create a visually appealing design that grabs the attention of my WhatsApp contacts and communicates my services in a clear and concise manner. I wanted to make it obvious that I'm a graphic designer and that I'm available to help with any design projects they may have. The Design To create the poster, I started by selecting a bold and eye-catching color scheme that would stand out on a mobile device. I then added a large, floating screenshot of a WhatsApp chat, complete with my own chat bubbles and contact information. This element was crucial in immediately conveying that the poster was related to WhatsApp. To add some visual interest and...

Image
As a graphic designer, I'm always on the lookout for new tools and software to expand my creative horizons. Recently, I had the opportunity to experiment with Jitter Video Animator, and I'm excited to share my first impressions. My first project with Jitter was to create a 7-second intro animation for Izwi Lomzansi 98.0 FM's logo. I was tasked with bringing their static logo to life, and Jitter seemed like the perfect tool for the job. From the get-go, I was impressed with Jitter's user-friendly interface. As a graphic designer, I'm comfortable working with design software, and Jitter felt almost like animating on a digital canvas. The intuitive controls and drag-and-drop functionality made it easy for me to navigate and experiment with different animations. Jitter Work station user interface The project itself was a breeze to complete. I imported the Izwi Lomzansi 98.0 FM logo, added some dynamic animations, and fine-tuned the timing to create a seamless 7-second...
